The PCAN-Wireless Gateway DR connects different CAN busses over IP networks, providing two high-speed CAN interfaces and one WLAN connection. CAN frames can be wrapped in TCP or UDP message packets and are forwarded through the IP net from one device to another. With a DIN rail casing and support of extended temperature ranges, the PCAN Wireless Gateway DR is suitable for industrial environments.

The device's web interface will provide a variety of status information including the device settings, communication interfaces, and message routing. This gateway product requires 2 TCP connections, so a client socket and server socket is needed on each side of a pairing.

The Gateway offers three application options to operate;

  • PCAN Wireless Gateway DR to PCAN Wireless Gateway DR
  • PCAN Wireless Gateway DR to Virtual Gateway Software
  • PCAN Wireless Gateway DR to a custom program of TCP/UDP socket application

The connection of the CAN busses is by WLAN network and configuration of the routes is done via web interface.

PCAN Wireless Gateway DR to Virtual PCAN Software
This option provides access for Windows computers to devices over IP networks. The module is configured with two routes: one for receiving CAN data and one for sending data. Within the web interface, two matching routes are configured for sending and receiving data between the PC's IP address and PC.

In this application you can seamlessly use Peak System Software such as PCAN-Explorer and PCAN-View.

PCAN Wireless Gateway DR and PC via TCP/UDP Sockets
Operating between PCAN Wireless Gateway DR and PC via TCP/UDP sockets allows for communication with a socket interface of the remote site. A custom application can be written using standard TCP/UDP sockets (such as with Windows, Linux, and Android). For sending data to the PCAN-Wireless Gateway DR, the custom application acts as a client to open a connection to the server port on the device. For receiving data from the Gateway, it acts as a client and opens a connection to a server port of the custom application.
