  • The PCAN-Wireless Gateway is used to connect CAN busses through IP networks with one WLAN connection and two high-speed CAN interfaces. The module operates with two D-Sub connectors or one Tyco automotive connector. The CAN frames are wrapped in TCP or UDP message packets and forwarded via the IP net from one device to another.

    There are three options for operating the gateway; PCAN Wireless Gateway to PCAN Wireless Gateway, PCAN Wireless Gateway to Virtual Gateway Software, or a PCAN Wireless Gateway to a custom program of TCP/UDP socket application.

    When operating PCAN Wireless Gateway to PCAN Wireless Gateway the connection of the CAN busses is by WLAN network and configuration of the routes is done via web interface.

    The PCAN Wireless Gateway to Virtual PCAN Software provides access for Windows computers to devices over IP networks. With this option, the module is configured with two routes; one for receiving CAN data and one for sending data. Within the web interface, two matching routes are configured for sending and receiving data between the PC's IP address and PC.

    Operating between PCAN Wireless Gateway and PC via TCP/UDP sockets allows for communication with a socket interface of the remote site. A custom application can be written using standard TCP/UDP sockets (such as with Windows, Linux, and Android). For sending data to the PCAN-Wireless Gateway, the custom application acts as a client to open a connection to the server port on the device. For receiving data from the Gateway, it acts as a client and opens a connection to a server port of the custom application.
